Happy for #HAPPO (...but what should I say?)
I’ll admit, it’s relatively easy for me to promote others & their efforts. When it comes to promoting myself & tooting my own horn, the task isn’t so effortless. I wouldn’t consider myself a PR pro, more like a pro-in-training or a newbie. So, here's my official bid for Help a PR pro Out day (Happo) (details here: http://helpaprproout.com/?p=189).
I’m looking a pr position that will allow me to nurture my creativity in a challenging & supportive environment. The following is a short list of my background & recent experience:
- 2004 graduate of the University of Cincinnati’s College of Business (Major: Marketing; Minor: Entrepreneurship/Family Business)
- I’ve held down a few part-time gigs, including a work-study job with the UC Libraries during my four years of study. (2000-2004). I have a soft spot for non-profits, having working with them in some form for the past ten years.
- One significant experience that exposed me to the world of public relations was my internship experience at a sports & entertainment pr firm. During my tenure there I learned how to use Bacon’s (now Cision); participated in guerilla marketing (street team) promotions for clients such as Cincinnati Bell, the Marvin Lewis Community Fund, Cincinnati Enquirer, etc.; and I assisted at the media center for the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon
- I recently completed an online course via Media Bistro on public relations basics, including assignments on how to create tactical plans, biographies, pitch letters, and news releases.
- Currently learning how to use Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. I’ve recently edited a intergenerational book discussion series using the software:
I’ve also created a teaser in iMovie to promote the series:

Article: Casual dress = weight loss success
A recent study from the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse looked at the relationship between clothing and physical activity while at work. Researchers studied 53 people in a variety of professions and tracked both their daily activity (measured by pedometers) and how casually or professionally dressed they were. Results showed that people took an average of 491 more steps each day if they wore casual clothing to work. That means that just by dressing comfortably, study subjects increased their daily calorie burns by eight percentAction SparkedTake advantage of your company's casual Friday or business-casual dress code. The easiest way to increase comfort, even in a polished-professional environment, is to wear practical shoes.Dress for comfort and you’ll be more likely to walk to a co-worker's desk, take the stairs…even walk the dog when you get home (rather than just letting him out in the backyard). No casual days at work? Have your own casual evenings and weekends. Or better yet, leave a copy of this study on your boss's desk.

Too connected, perhaps?
Is that too much? Then again there are a lot of social networking & apps I'm not attached to like digg, stumble upon, etc.
Honestly I fear the possiblilty of having someone see some unsavory things on one of these profiles, especially my current employer. This article in CinWeekly speaks about how it can work for - or against you.
Recently I had to untag myself from a youtube video. I'd be dammed if my co-workers see me engaging in some New Years foolishness. Lawd! Ooh, just cussed now - oops! But you have to be careful what you and your friends post on the Internets! There's a fine line of interacting and missing a great job opportunity, so watch out!
On the flip side CinWeekly reviews five popular social networking sites, along with their pros and cons.
